François Bernatchez

After being a sole practitioner for many years, François  joined our business and corporate law team in the summer of 2016. His diverse academic and professional experience makes him a valuable resource during business transactions.

Serving a clientele of mostly SMEs for over 30 years, François practices primarily in the areas of buy-sell transactions, amalgamations, corporate reorganizations as well as business successions involving key employees or through an intergenerational transfer.

Since beginning his career in law, François has been passionate about teaching. In fact, shortly after obtaining his Masters in law, he began to teach corporate law in the graduate tax program at the Université de Sherbrooke, which he did for 25 years. For the past number of years he also gives business law seminars at the Bar  School.

Professional activities

I have always found business successions to be particularly stimulating. These types of transactions often involve corporate reorganization and other challenges that give me the chance to use my corporate law experience so that my clients can be confident that their businesses will continue to grow after the transfer.

Social Involvement

I have always believed in the benefits of sporting activities, for the body and mind alike. For this reason, I am involved with the  Fédération québécoise d’athlétisme as an official and I have actively participated in organizing international track and field competitions in Sherbrooke, such as the 2003 World Youth Championships.
